Oh Tannenbaum!!

We have been having some really bad, stormy weather recently, with the ferries cancelled, the planes grounded, so it was a relief to get over to Kirkwall recently to get the Christmas shopping. We only have a very limited time to rush round all the different shops to try and get all the things on the list, that cannot be found on the island. I always try to squeeze in a visit to the library, despite getting the library van over on the island once a month. If truth be known, I go the van and also the library as well. it is one of the best libraries I have ever seen, and the staff are brilliant! When I walked in this time, I got a lovely surprise. The Kirkwall Knit and Natter group had knitted/crocheted a Christmas tree. It was gorgeous! A wooden frame was made by the staff and then the squares and the ornaments were attached - fantastic!! Do have a look!

I love the knitted robin!

As I said at the beginning of this post, our weather has not been good. Last night it blew all night, the highest gust was 84mph, and we had a really high tide this morning. The sea breached our road in several places. The video below shows one of the breaches over the road.

The sea is on the left hand side, and the sea has breached the bank and is flowing over the road and flooding the field on the right hand side. We had to about turn and go the long way round to the shop. it is supposed to blow right up to Christmas, but at least we are not getting snow like some places.

Christmas Video

I hadn't seen this advert previously, as we do not have this store anywhere near us. To me it sums up exactly what Christmas should be like - friendship, love, sharing, helping each other, giving and accepting differences. What a lovely video!
Till next time.

For the Love of Hand Embroidery

I was really excited when Jane of Jane's Fabrics and Quilts invited me to take part in the 'For the Love of Hand Embroidery' blog hop. She sent me some lovely Presencia threads, which I had never used before. They were brilliant and really nice to use. Why don't you pop over to Jane's site and see what I made with the threads? At the same time why don't you have a look at the Presencia threads?

Just a quick note to let you know my son-in-law is progressing well. All those prayers and good wishes are really working. He is supposed to get out of hospital sometime this week, but then the hard work will begin. Thanks for all the good wishes.

Go pop over to Jane's now!

Experimenting!

This is just a little experiment. More to come!!

Please say a small prayer for my son-in-law. He had a major operation yesterday and now is in intensive care for a few days. We are all thinking of you!
Till next time.

New Textile Magazine from Apple

The new textile magazine, 'Kindred Spirits' from L Green & J.I Kellaway in the Apple App store is on special offer for 99c (Australian). The first issue's theme is  'A Walk in the Garden' and is full of beautiful photography, lots of tempting projects, hints and tips and even an interactive video. Projects to make include an embroidered purse, a folded fabric brooch, a pincushion, crochet hair slides and a felt heart hanger. This is a beautiful magazine to look at, and there is such a variety of different things - embroidery and crochet stitches how-to, ideas on where to buy items, decorating ideas - I could go on, but why don't you go and see for yourself. You can see more details here
I think this is one magazine I will be subscribing to in future, as the first issue is great!
Till next time.
